Recent studies done by the Highway Loss Data Institute show that California’s sate law banning the use of hand held mobile-phones while driving has not reduced the number of accidents.  The number of car collision claims in California were not much different then California’s surrounding states that have not implemented a traffic law prohibiting the use of mobile-phones while operating a vehicle.

The law that outlaws the use of cellphones while driving in California has been in affect for almost 2 years now.  The number of vehicle accidents has not declined since this law was passed, however the number of traffic tickets issued has greatly increased.  Since this law went into effect, the California Highway Patrol has issued over 230,000 tickets to violators of the new law.  Some experts argue that the law was passed with the hope of an increase in the number of ticket citations, instead of a decrease in accidents.
